I explained to my wife recently that the reason that I needed a new shift knob for my S2000 was similar to the reason she needs to have five different black purses. Some shift knobs just don't go with the shoes I'm wearing. But seriously, I was really just wanting a change of pace and found this JDM Honda knob on eBay for less than $50. So I jumped at it. It is either titanium or aluminum (not sure which) and this model was originally designed for the 6-speed Civic. It is the same knob as the S2000 CR knob, but with red lettering instead of the CR's yellow.
The sunsets in the winter time are somehow always spectacular in comparison to other times during the year in Texas. So I took the opportunity since we hit 80 degrees today to spend the sunset with camera in hand at the end of an empty road in our neighborhood.
The wife and I went for a joy ride this afternoon hoping to spot a new CRZ up at our local Honda dealer. No luck. None on the lot today. Maybe next weekend. Snapped a pic of my ride under the Honda sign before we left.
With the temperature hovering in the mid-70's today, it was just about perfect for a top-down drive through East Texas. So the wife and I hopped into the car and drove out to Lake Fork. After a couple hours of cruising, we ate some dinner and headed home to give the car a good bath. All in all, a simply fabulous S2000 day.
Well, this was cool. Was watching Auto Trader, a UK television show about buying cars, tonight and this episode featured a guy choosing between a Miata, a Z4, a Boxster, and an S2000. Here is the last few minutes of the show where he makes his pick. Given enough budget to buy any of them, he picks the Honda. Not sure I could have said it better myself. "It just goes like stink."
Ran across this in one of the forums last night. It'd help to be able to read Japanese, but there are still some really nifty videos, slideshows, and wallpapers here:
If you haven't played CarTown on Facebook, it's pretty fun. And the fact that they've got an S2000 in there is just SO cool. You can pick any number of colors. Here it is in silver.
So you probably need to speak Japanese to get the most out of this video, but it's still fun to watch the driver's heel-toe technique even if you can't understand him.
I met a guy tonight in the Best Buy parking lot driving a red S2000. Since you could literally count all the S2000's in Longview on one hand, it is kind of unique to get the chance to park next to another one. So here's Stewie on the right next to the red one.
As fate may have it, driving home, we were passed by a yellow one and saw another silver one parked at an apartment complex. Looks like all of us were out for the day.
So I rigged up a tripod into my car this morning by running two of the legs down behind the two seats, and then made the third leg as short as possible and it hits at just the right length to be held in place by the lip of the lowered convertible top. Like this:
So then, I set the camera up to automatically take a photo every 10 seconds and I started to drive. I set the aperature to F22 and the ISO as low as I could get it...so my exposures were 1/30-1/60th of a second in bright sunlight. That gave me enough shutter drag to get some good blurring outside of the car cockpit while maintaining sharp focus on those things that are moving in the same plane as the camera (i.e. Me and the car). The result is LOTS of fun...
I received my Moddiction Anvil brushed stainless steel shift knob yesterday and put it in my car last night. Of all the things I've bought for my car thus far, it is my favorite. The whole experience of shifting feels different. The drive feels more solid and shifting is less notchy.
The girls went to Hurricane Harbor today so I spent some time washing, waxing, and snapping some pics. I really had a good time playing with interesting angles on the car.
Here is a photo of my first S2000, affectionately dubbed "Stewie 1." Sadly, he had to go back to the dealership because he had a blown engine. He is a 2006 Sebring Silver Metallic with all black interior.
I bought my 2005 Honda S2000 in March of 2010. I love this car. I am a member of numerous forums about it, but haven't been able to find all of the information that I wanted in one place. So I created this blog as a place to store all the tidbits of goodness that I dig up about the greatest car ever made: the Honda S2000.
I made this page just for me. If anybody else enjoys it, then that's great too.
